it is free, and no it is not available through steam.  i'm not sure jeff you might wanna check their tech support for answers, it could be a windows service causing a problem.  mine downloaded without any problem.

I play it a lot as well.  I am under my old nick "sleepingkiller".  I join up with a bunch of others sometimes (usually on vent).  Platoons are limited to 3 people with a premium, but the click at the same time method usually works :D
